Complex marine design department is a structural division of FEMRI engaged in designing and technology works in the field of marine transport. It has a great history as far as a system approach to meeting technical challenges has been introduced in 1948, with traditions being constantly transmitted to the younger generation. Some of our projects during the Soviet era were called «for the first time in the USSR». Among these projects are: modernization of cargo ships into comfortable passenger ships, modernization of hatch covers, working out of new technologies and technical appliances for cargo delivery in unequipped ports of Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Eastern Arctic (self-propelled barges), projects of container capacity increase, studies of timber securing and transportation being the background of national rules of timber transportation, unique projects of delivery and unloading large-sized heavy load cargo without crane facilities, etc. Marine design department is acknowledged by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Russian River Register. Main activity: 1. All kinds of designing works related to marine transport, such as design and working documentation of: - new vessels of any destination; - floating crafts for berthing line filling and cleaning; - oil garbage disposal vessels; - floating stripping stations; - floating berths; - ship refitting (including main and auxiliary power plants, radio navigation appliances, any systems, structures and mechanisms). 2. Ship verification for compliance with IMO conventions, development of working documentation in accordance with required rules; 3. Converting ships for transportation of dangerous and special cargoes; 4. Reclassification of ships from the River Register or other classification societies to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping; 5. Initial inspection of second-hand ships for evaluation of their costs and required additional costs; 6. Expert appraisal of the reasons for ship loss, accidental oil splits, etc. 7.
